As Kansas City anticipates over 18,000 new jobs in STEAM-related fields, iSTEAMkc plays a crucial role in preparing the workforce of tomorrow. Our tailored workforce development initiatives include paid internships, mentorships, and job shadowing opportunities, providing invaluable real-world experience for students and young professionals. By collaborating with local businesses, educational institutions, and civic organizations, we ensure that our participants not only gain technical skills but also develop the confidence and adaptability needed to thrive in competitive industries. Our mission is to create a thriving workforce pipeline that benefits both individuals and the broader Kansas City economy.
The 2022 Workforce Development Symposium, hosted by iSTEAMkc at the historic Gem Theater, marked a pivotal moment for community engagement in Kansas City. This groundbreaking event brought together over 125 community organizations, agencies, and representatives, all united by a shared goal of addressing workforce development in underserved communities. The symposium featured roundtable discussions and panels led by prominent local leaders, including experts from The DeBruce Foundation, KC Tech Council, and PREP-KC.
Key topics included overcoming barriers to workforce readiness, such as transportation, digital connectivity, and trust between employers and underrepresented communities. Attendees explored innovative solutions and emphasized the need for collaboration to meet the demand for over 18,000 projected jobs in Kansas City’s future workforce. This event not only highlighted the region's challenges but also fostered partnerships and actionable strategies, reinforcing iSTEAMkc’s commitment to building a more inclusive and innovative Kansas City.
